Biography

Karina is a Perth and Dunsborough based, UK born professional artist who is passionate about paint, and the trees and coast which make life in the South West of WA so unique. Art has always been integral at every stage of her life, culminating in a Fine Art Degree from Curtin University in Perth. After graduating, Karina volunteered for Fine Art at Hale, becoming Curator for 2016/17, at the same time building her practice from her Perth home studio.

Karina is devoted to memorising and documenting the places she walks in each day, as a means of immortalising its visual beauty and the sense of well-being it evokes.  A fascination with the paint’s physicality and mark making techniques marry with her investigations into maximising depth of field, to enhance the sense of calm and contentment evoked by a familiar place. Her recent landscape paintings often use a reverse perspective method, contrasting blurred peripherals with sharp focal points, to invite the viewer into the space.

Karina’s art practice highlights include presenting the solo exhibition Walk of Wonder: Reflections from the Cape to Cape Track in January 2022 at Gallows Gallery Perth, the joint exhibition Biophilia: Inside and Out at Kidogo Arthouse in 2018 , being a selected finalist in the prestigious 2019 Perth Royal Show Salon and having her work acquired by The City of Stirling in 2021. Karina also tutors others in oil painting techniques and specialises in large scale landscape commissions for private homes.
